David Schwartz

Secondary School Governor

Born in London, David studied Geology and Astronomy at Plymouth Polytechnic. From 1985 to 1992, David worked in Plymouth as a Youth Worker, Community Worker, Family Workshop Coordinator, and Adult Basic Education Tutor. David also worked in the Welfare Area at the Annual Glastonbury Festival from 1988 to 1998.

In 1992, David began working for a Drug and Alcohol Treatment Service in Plymouth until 2006, during which he presented work at an EU European Conference in Portugal and the European Parliament in Strasbourg. David then joined the Council as the City's Young Person's Lead for Drugs and Alcohol in 2006, also taking on the role of Teenage Pregnancy Coordinator.

From 2008 to 2014, he worked in the Council's Commissioning Team, primarily focusing on the children's system and serving as a commissioner for adult homeless hostels for 18 months. David joined the Public Health children's team in 2014, with a keen interest in complex systems and human learning systems.

David served as a secondary school governor twice, in the late 1980s and more recently from 2018 to 2022. In 2021, David was diagnosed with ADHD at the age of 59.
